30 Days of {Blank}

30DaysOfBlankDo you read Room 704? If not, you need to leave now. Right alongside the brand spakin’ new Aiming Low, it’s my favorite group blog and the women who write there are amazing.

Last week Mrs. Flinger (the techie) decided that we should all join her in “30 Days of {Blank}”, creating a new habit in the month of August. I love self-improvement and right now, I need a goal ahead of me – or I’m not going to make it to 28. (Wow … I’ll be 28 next year. I like the sound of that. Better than 27. /tangent) Anyway, I need something to do this month – something more than drink wine and lay by the pool (although 30 days of that does sound mightly lovely) so I’m tackling

30 days of no fast food or coffee (drink) purchases

30 days of writing at least 1.5 sentences of fiction*

Last night I had my last Taco Bell for a long while (purposefully splurging) and my body probably hates me right now for it. To start the month off right, I learned to make my own espresso this morning and it’s easy!!! It also tastes fantastic and saved me $2.00! I have had a Krups espresso machine for over a year now that has been gathering dust in a cupboard. This morning I named her Lila and she and I are about to become very close.

I love me some Taco Bell and some Starbucks, but both my waistline and my budget don’t really (damned sensible adultness coming into play) so I figure this is going to be both a challenge and a reward wrapped into one single month. Feel like joining me? Link me to your 30 Days of {Blank} entry and I’ll add you to my list!

The plan is to post daily on my 30 Days of {Blank} page the success (or not-so-much-success) of each day in hopes of keeping myself accountable. Aaaaand, at the end of August, if I have succeeded, I am going to reward myself with an hour-long massage.

*On August 1st at 3:15pm, one of my heroes died. A well-known public health textbook author and a four-time fiction author, Russ encouraged me to write daily. In honor of him, I will also be spending 30 days of writing at least 1.5 sentences of fiction. That was Russ’ daily writing goal – he would write that last half sentence to be sure when he went back the next day he had something to finish. I’ll be continuing his legacy.
